[ He's coming to really like walking in the snow. Not that he's never seen snow before -- plenty of places he was deployed to got snow -- but he's never had this much time to just quietly enjoy it. So Jion walks a lot, choosing routes that haven't been walked on so he can feel it squeak and crunch beneath his boots.
The path he takes is meandering in loops and circles around Flavo, the fog of his breath puffing around him, and he idly glances at windows as he passes by houses.
So of course he notices that little shape of a person by one particular window, covered in a blanket. He stands on tiptoes, then tries to look from the side to make out who it is -- it takes a little effort to recognize Kisa's hair past the folds of the blanket.
On Kisa's part, she might hear the shuffle of footsteps scuffling through the snow, slowly approaching the house, before there's a gentle tap-tap at her window. Jion's leaning against the sill, and he gives her a friendly little wave if he can catch her eye. ]
[ The blanket flinches a bit, her eyes widening once she looks up and spots him smiling through the window. After a short pause, Kisa shifts to her feet, blanket pulled tight around her and heads not for the window, but the door, to crack it open.
[ Whoops, did he scare her off? Not that he could blame her, he's kinda frightened her in the past ... Jion hesitates by the window, looking a little worried before the door cracks open. ]
Oh! Hey, Kisa.
[ He crunches his way through the snow closer to the doorway and crouches down so he's closer to her eye level. ]
Sorry, I didn't mean to make you get out of bed or anything, I was just passing by and wanted to say hi. The snow's really great, it's been fun just walking around. [ A sheepish laugh before he goes on, ] Are you doing alright? Just trying to stay warm?
[ Ah, yeah. He's pretty sure it's one of those mirrors. Jion grimaces slightly before reaching forward -- gently, not too quickly, to avoid startling Kisa -- and fluffs the blanket around her. ]
Hey Kisa, is it okay if I step in there for a moment? I'll come right back out, but I just wanna cover up the mirror so it's harder to hear. It's really stressful to listen to, right? I have one, too.
Thanks, Kisa. [ Another gentle fluff of the blanket around her as he gives her his best reassuring smile. ] Just wait here and keep warm for a moment, okay? I won't take long.
[ He hurriedly takes his boots off before entering to avoid tracking snow into the house, shucking his jacket off on the way to where the mirror's lying on the floor. He'll have to ask Kisa for a spare blanket or something later, but for now this'll do. ]
[ Jion, you don't have to use your own jacket for this!!
So Kisa would say, if she was feeling up to talking, but she doesn't, so he can just get the blanket creature making worried and somewhat frazzled gestures with its blanket arms as Kisa turns towards him. ]
[ He's just crouched down to pick up the mirror, and looks up at Kisa's frantic gesturing. And after a moment of looking puzzled, he perks up. Right, of course! ]
It's okay, don't worry! [ Giving her the 'OK' hand signal. ] I'll be real careful not to break it! It's super unlucky to break mirrors after all, right?
[ And with that, he quickly wraps his jacket around the mirror. ]
[ Ah man, she has some face scuffs. Jion always carries around his basic supplies out of habit, and he starts rummaging through his first aid kit for antibiotic ointment, looking up when he notices her shaking her head. ]
No? [ A pause before he gives a mock dramatic gasp. ] Wait, how did you know I was lying? I also secretly really wanted to just sit by myself and watch movies when I was sick ... but don’t tell anyone that okay? That’s pretty selfish, wanting to hog the TV.
[ It’s ... honestly a pretty lame attempt at lightening the mood, and he gives a really awkward laugh as he finally fishes out the little tube of ointment and an alcohol swab. ]
— I’m kidding! I’m kidding. I know that’s not what you mean. Here, hold on a sec, okay? [ He quickly swabs his fingers clean before moving to apply the ointment to her face. Can’t have any wounds sticking around on her face now, can he! Despite his bulk, he’s perfectly delicate and gentle with his hands. ] You’re talking about what that mirror was saying, right? Since it was saying you’re a coward?
[ He's very hands-on, isn't he? Which... is fine, probably. Kisa should be used to this by now, and doesn't really flinch, patiently holding still while he doctors her up. ]
...
[ And finally, she nods. The thing is, she's pretty sure her mirror isn't wrong about that at all. She is a coward. She runs away more often than not, cries more than she smiles... ]
[ He looks a little thoughtful as he finishes dabbing the ointment on her cheek, then sits back on his haunches once he’s done, giving her a little smile. ]
There, done! Sorry, I don’t have any cute bandages on me, but I think you’ll be okay. Just try not to rub your face on the blankets for a little bit, alright? And, um. Wanna hear some important advice my commander taught me before?
[ Jion leans in a little closer, lowering his voice to a dramatic whisper. ]
He taught me it’s important to pick your fights. That there’s nothing shameful about running from a fight sometimes, because nobody is strong enough to fight all the fights out there. That as long as you can be brave and step in when you really need to fight for something important, that’s what really matters. [ A friendly nod as he tries to gauge how she’s taking that advice. ] What d’you think? Makes sense?
[ Kisa automatically reaches up to touch her cheek-- catching herself quickly and lowering her hand again as she blinks at him with wide eyes.
That's... nothing she's ever heard before. It's okay to run? That maybe there'll be a time where she can be brave enough to do something, even if the urge to flee is still there? And that's... fine??
Truth be told, she looks a little overwhelmed by this new tidbit of information. ]
[ Gosh, she looks so cute when she’s confused. Jion laughs, but it quickly peters off into a thoughtful noise as he turns over Kisa’s wrapped-up mirror in his hands; it’s quiet at the moment. ]
I think it makes sense though ... I’ve deal with some scary things before, right? But just because you can handle a scary thing doesn’t mean it’s not scary, or not exhausting. I know it can get pretty tiring if you try to handle everything, especially alone. And I think that’s when you have to decide what’s important and what’s not!
[ A firm nod to punctuate his point as he continues. ] Like, there’s things, or people that are super super important to you, right? And for those things, you’ll be able to deal with scary things? I think as long as you know what those are, then it’s okay to sometimes admit that something is too scary, and you need more time to handle it, or maybe you’d like someone to help you. There’s nothing wrong with being a ‘coward’ in that way, that’s just knowing what’s most important to you!
[ It's not that she thinks it's weird, but it's certainly a lot to process. Especially when what her mirror had told her was still fresh in her mind. She was a coward. She ran away all the time, after trying to defend herself had only earned her more ridicule. Even when she'd known she'd be inconveniencing others.
But here Jion is, telling her that it's okay to run, as long as she remembers what's important. And as long as she doesn't do it alone.
I'm glad if it makes sense, but you can think over it a little bit, too!
[ Jion laughs as he pats Kisa's hair over the blanket. But not too hard, because maybe that's kinda condescending? Hopefully she doesn't take it badly. ]
Stuff like that always takes a while to understand, at least for me. But thinking over it slowly helps, I think! Maybe while you're in bed? I can, like, try and make something warm for you to drink, too, if you don't mind me borrowing your kitchen?
Cool. You go ahead and get back in your bed first, okay? Um, here. [ Handing Kisa her wrapped-up mirror. ] It turns out if you're too far away from it, it like, teleports back to you? And it'd probably get out of the wrapping. So hold onto it for a bit, okay? Put it under a pillow if it gets too noisy.
[ And with that, he trots off to the kitchen. Plundering someone else's kitchen extensively feels rude, so he settles for something simple -- he peeks into Kisa's room after a few moments with a mug of warm water with honey and a squeeze of lemon. ]

I'm hiding away like a coward, because that's all I do. Run away.

Kisa, who ... [ He has his suspicions though, especially after seeing all those mirrors all week, and he looks slightly worried. ] Is that ... ?

You can't tell him, can you? Who you really are?

[ After an uneasy glance over her shoulder, Kisa nonetheless steps aside to let Jion come in.
The mirror is already face-down on the floor, but not broken, because Kisa doesn't trust it. ]

Okay, fine, she'll go get a blanket.
Except by rule of Murphy, she's actually tripping over the hem of her own blanket and going down with a WHUMP. ]

[ He hurriedly grabs up the wrapped mirror so it doesn't teleport out of its wrappings, then rushes over to crouch beside her. ]
You okay there? [ Jion offers a hand to help her up. ] Wanna get back into bed if you're not feeling great?
